Comparison of Bluest Eye & American Born Chinease
In both the bluest eye and amreican born chinease the main characters struggle with who they are and gaining respect for themselves becuase of who they were born as. In Bluest eye Pecola is discriminiated agians by her grandmother because she is darker than her sister, in Amrican Born chinese the character name "Chin-Key" sounds an awful lot like a certain racial slurr for a chinease person. also in american born chinese the monkey king faces discriminiation becuse he is differnt than all the other gods so they will not let him into the high heaven even after he has accomplished alll of the required taskes they give him.

I agree with you when you say that both the main characters struggle with the person they were born as. Chinkee isn't really appreciated by his cousin and Pecola isn't accepted by a few people. You have a lot of spelling mistakes but overall I totally agree with what you are saying.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that the characters in both books struggle with the race they are born with. Danny who ends up really being Jin because it couldn't stand himself being chinese, basically beacuse the girl he liked, friend, told Jin he wasn't good enough for her.
ReplyDeleteWhile connecting with your post....I am trying to close my eyes and imagine how difficult it must have felt in the shoes of Pecola or Chinkee. I have always wondered what it would be like to be black. Just to see how it feels to be discriminated against like many terrible people in the world tend to do...simply because it is all they have ever been taught. People in today's society are honestly so discriminating...this is one of the reasons that the name of Danny's cousin, Chinkee kind of surprised and offended me in a sense of insulting the chinese culture.
